Treyson is our child who likes to test the boundaries on a daily basis. He had alot of problems at school with not listening and following directions, and was getting time-outs daily. With Treyson, time-outs were not effective. We kept trying to figure out "what will it take to get Treyson's attention?"
Treyson is VERY ATHLETIC! He only wants to wear under armour type clothing (such a bummer since I had bought so many clothes at 75% off last year that he has no interest in). He also only wants to wear running shoes, or his "Mikey's" (as he prefers to call them). He doesn't think that he can do anything without them on. At school, he plays kickball, baseball, and football at play time. Sandbox? No thanks! Slide or monkey bars? Don't have time--too many balls to kick!
We had an "AHA" moment when we realized that the thing nearest and dearest to his heart were his Mikey's and his balls (all 30 of them). When Treyson gets into trouble, he does not go to time out.....his Mikey's do. It is absolutely the most devastating thing to Treyson, because he is so sad that he can't run fast or play at school without his shoes on. We find it hilarious, but hey--whatever works!
Ever since Treyson moved up to the 3 year old classroom (a year early, but that's another story), he has been doing great! No time-outs at school, and listening to his teachers! YAY Treyson! We all decided that Treyson is just a smart little boy, and was bored in the 2-3 class room and needed the challenge of the older class. So proud of him! :)
Hopefully this means the Mikey's can stay on his feet instead of going to time-out!
